Homemade Turkey Sloppy Joes

We make these sloppy joes with ground turkey. Even though we are big proponents of beef and eat beef all the time, the Turkey makes for a much cleaner meal. Any flavoring which might be lost is replaced with the home made sauce. Just try it, you'll like it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. corn oil
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • Pepper as desired
  • 1 lb. ground turkey (95% fat free is still tasty)
  • 3/4 c. ketchup
  • 1 3/4 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 3/4 tbsp. prepared mustard
  • 3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

Dice onion into 1/4 inch pieces. Remove excess moisture from ground turkey with a paper towel. Add oil to pan along with onion, salt, pepper and turkey. Cook for 7-10 minutes stirring occasionally until meat is browned.

In a bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. Add to pan and stir into the meat/onion mixture. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Serve open faced over rolls. Use onion or pretzel rolls for bonus points.

Cook onion in shortening and brown meat; drain. Combine all ingredients and cook 30 to 45 minutes. Serve on buns.
